I'm pretty excited for this blogging assignment. Writing for an online audience is not exactly a new concept for me seeing as I like to dabble in Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Last.fm and Blogger from time to time. Although the regularity of my posts usually directly correlates with either copious amounts of free time, or an overwhelming desire to procrastinate.
It really surprised me to discover that so many of my peers studying Journalism were not necessarily interested in engaging with social media outside of the hugely popular Facebook. I expected far more people to already have Twitter, write blogs and interact with the myriad of available social mediums because they're actually really interesting and fun! I expect as people begin to use this media for class that a few will continue after the assignment due date.
Considering this is my first post, I feel obligated to include some sort of introduction. One month ago my boyfriend and I moved to Brisbane from my hometown Launceston, Tasmania. Neither of us know anyone in Queensland, it just seemed like a good time to escape our somewhat stifling island home. I'm studying Journalism/Arts at UQ majoring in International Relations and he is doing a Diploma in Music Business.
At the moment we are having a competition to get the most followers on Instagram; I have 55 and he has 108 but the battle is not over yet. I enjoy Dr Who reruns (old and new), drawing pictures and most importantly, going to concerts and listening to music. I write for Fasterlouder.com (a music news website) and literally all of my albeit extremely limited disposable income is spent on tickets and CDs. Since moving to Brisbane I have managed to fit in a couple of shows a week, I am really enjoying the local scene.

I'm fairly certain my interest in music will dominate this blog but I'm looking forward to reviewing lectures and discussing other topics as well. I'm fairly snap-happy with my IPhone so at least the ramble will be broken up with pictures. Here's to hoping anyway.
Adiós
